The area

If you’re looking for a holiday destination where you can go skiing  while surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful scenery, you’d be hard-pressed to find a mountain range more visually stunning than the Dolomites of northern Italy. Skiing in the Dolomites is an excellent alternative to skiing in the traditional Alpine destinations.

There are 12 main ski resorts in the Dolomites.  The area offers a variety of sunny pistes that range anywhere between 1,500 and 3,250 metres in terms of elevation. As a destination, skiing in the Dolomites has something to offer everyone but is a great area for strong intermediate skiers whilst offering the more expert skier a good amount of challenging skiing too.

The resort and hotel

We will be based in Arabba for the week.  Arabba is located at the foot of the Sella Group at 1,612 metres above sea level, between Canazei, Corvara and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Accommodation is in the lovely Hotel Olympia - https://www.hotel-olympia.com/en/home-en/

We have stayed at this hotel on our last 2 trips to the Dolomites and the food, accommodation and service is excellent.  The Hotel Olympia is located on the sunny side of Arabba with splendid views of the Sella massif, Sas Ćiapel, Portavescovo, Beć de Mezdí and Còl de Lana.

Our programme

What we offer on our Italian trip is slightly different to our Courchevel programme. It’s more like an adventure/ski exploration holiday. Your instructor is with you all day and we will explore all over the Sella Ronda (not just the main circuit).

The Sella Ronda is Italy’s most famous ski circuit and is a must-ski of any trip to the Dolomites.  We will, of course, incorporate this in to our programme but there’s lots of other things on offer to.

The truth is the best skiing is often off the Sella Ronda circuit and we will take you there.  Here is a rough plan for our week.

Day 1                Arabba / Corvara and the Sella Ronda circuit anticlockwise
Day 2                Passo Pordoi / San Cristina and Selva
Day 3                La Crusc Santa Croc – amazing day to this ancient chapel for lunch
Day 4                Marmolada glacier up to the highest point in the area at 3250m - wonderful open pistes from this highpoint.
Day 5                Hidden Valley and over towards Cortina - takes in a ‘James Bond’ type cable car then the Hidden Valley piste before a horse powered pull back to the main ski area

There will be one day of free skiing during the week.

Who is this trip for?

You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy this trip. If you can manage red runs you will fit in fine and we will run 3 different levels of ski groups this week (Level 6 on our ski scale ).  Andy Dolan, Dave Beattie and one other instructor (tba) will staff this trip.

It is necessary to be able to cope with a red run but where possible the leisurely group will choose blue runs whilst the faster groups will choose more challenging runs. We will stop for coffee and lunch but it is important to be fit enough to ski for the full day to enjoy and get the most out of the trip.

Flights and transfers

We offer transfers from Venice Marco Polo airport as part of the holiday cost.

We have nominated flights as detailed below for you to book and our transfers will coordinate with these flights.

If you prefer to book other flights other than the recommended one and use our transfer  and your flight is delayed you may need to make your own way to resort and claim from the airline or your insurance any additional costs incurred.

It would be wise therefore  to choose a flight due to arrive by about 15.00 hrs in case of delays or any alteration to the BA flight and a flight departing after 13:00 hrs.

Please check both the issue and expiry date of your passport to be sure it is valid for entry to Italy. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/entry-requirements
